‘Dirty little secret’ can make new school year a nightmare

Parents, children suffer when little ones struggling with bowel disorder return to class

Spring Lake, Mich. — Encopresis isn’t the sort of medical problem making headlines, but there’s no mistaking the quiet emotional toll it takes on children as school resumes across the country. Bright, vivacious boys and girls in elementary school are becoming quiet, withdrawn and ostracized. After all, children can be cruel and nobody wants to associate with the “smelly kid” sitting all alone.

In truth, they aren’t alone. One in every 33 children in every grade school could be suffering from the same disorder of the bowels. Retired Michigan psychologist Dr. Robert Collins has made it his mission to help children and their parents escape isolation and know that help is available.

“Encopresis is known as the ‘dirty little secret’ because people aren’t willing to discuss the issue of fecal incontinence in children age four and up,” said Collins, a psychologist with nearly four decades of experience. “Parents often feel like they’ve failed in their responsibilities, or they suspect their child is being stubborn when soiled pants are discovered. Nothing could be further from the truth. Encopresis is a bowel disorder that can be successfully treated.”

Collins has blazed medical trails by developing his “Soiling Solutions” treatment protocol, employing a carefully-timed use of suppositories and enemas explained in his “Clean Kid Manual” available at www.soilingsolutions.com. His methods have succeeded where more traditional methods – oral stool softening agents – failed.

“Parents needn’t feel embarrassment,” Collins added. “Encopresis can be treated, but it’s only possible by raising awareness of the problem.”

About Soiling Solutions — Seeking a better way to treat children suffering from encopresis (fecal incontinence), psychologist Dr. Robert Collins, Ph.D., introduced his innovative “Soiling Solutions” approach in 1998. Utilizing enemas and suppositories in a structured bowel retraining program, Collins’ technique marked a departure from oral stool softening agents favored by many pediatricians. Registered internationally, Collins’ “Soiling Solutions” system continues to gain popularity, with patients treated successfully in the U.S., France, the Netherlands, China, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Dr. Collins has given Iceland’s medical system permission to translate portions of his manual for their use. ‘Dispenser’ poised to elevate dealer sales to new heights

Southeastern Michigan-based firm unveils tiered lifting system capable of displaying, storing dealership vehicle inventory

Troy, Mich. — Standing out from the crowd is crucial for every automobile dealer in even the best of financial times. Rise above the competition, and the customers will come. AME Vertical – a company specializing in vertical storage solutions across a range of industries – recently unveiled the “Dispenser” to assist dealers seeking that business edge. It begins by looking upward!

Following 24 months of research and development, the patented and trademarked “Dispenser” is now ready for prime-time. The idea is simplicity itself, and it reinvents vehicle displays on dealership lots. Automobiles roll onto individual elevator platforms rising twenty feet or more, depending upon the number of levels desired by the customer. This stacking process conserves parking space and attracts attention.

“Dealership space is always at a premium, and the ‘Dispenser’ provides a long-term solution,” said David Easterbrook, president of the Troy, Mich.-based AME Vertical. “Storage is an added bonus, but the ‘Dispenser’ really shines as an eye-catcher. Dealers seeking a business landmark can see an immediate impact in showroom traffic. It’s just impressive to see a stack of vehicles four stories tall. Seeing is believing.”

Each individual rising platform is engineered to support weight potentially in excess of 7,000 pounds, allowing buyers to order custom-built “Dispensers” fulfilling brand-specific dealership needs. Accommodating subcompacts through full-size SUVs, the “Dispenser” meets demands in a range of finishes like painted aluminum clad, galvanized steel, epoxy and more.

An advertising monument clad in dealership-appropriate signage and lighting, the “Dispenser” can be loaded with four cars by one person in 12 minutes; two can unload four cars in five minutes. Even better, it’s a turnkey package, with AME Vertical providing the “Dispenser,” lighting, permits, signage, and footings in one complete package. New 'Water Bomber' Ready to Enter the Fight

Innovator, problem-solver Steve Green unveils retrofitted aircraft to deliver water, fire retardant in an effort to protect firefighters, high-value private and commercial property

CANTON, Ohio, Sept. 4, 2009 -- Amidst wildfires raging out of control this summer on two continents, Ohio inventor Steve Green has devised a weapon - the 101 "Water Bomber" - that could aid firefighters and property owners helpless in the face of oncoming flames. Working in conjunction with Wisconsin-based American Champion Aircraft (ACA) Corporation, Green's vision involves retrofitting the ACA Scout aircraft built on the manufacturer's "Scout" platform. These planes could then accurately deliver enough water and retardant to cover an entire football field in one drop, providing a last line of defense between charred rubble and intact homes.

"Whether you're living in California or Greece, wildfires are dominating news headlines and leaving only devastation behind for people living in the path of the flames. Every year, wildfires displace thousands of people and destroy hundreds of homes," said Green. "Design plans for the 'Water Bomber' began over a decade ago, and the project is now complete. It can't arrive quickly enough for homeowners looking for help when firefighters and aircrews are already fully committed to the frontlines."

Hopefully soon to be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration, the "Water Bomber" is capable of low, slow flight ideal for delivering water on target. Without FAA approval, "Water Bomber" flights are restricted to a 100-mile radius around ACA's Wisconsin headquarters. Currently, ACA is capable of manufacturing 10 "Water Bombers" (new cost of $200,000 - $225,000). Insurance companies, homeowner groups, private individuals and business owners could contract for personalized protection when flames approach. Hourly operational costs are incredibly low when compared to other firefighting aircraft carrying a much higher operational price tag.

"Imagine several 'Water Bombers' flying in formation like a squadron of B-17 bombers in World War II, dropping down to deliver enough water to save a neighborhood or establish a firebreak," said Green. "The true value of the 'Water Bomber' is the aircraft's ability to quickly land in a field, refill, take off and deliver pinpoint coverage over rough terrain. Our aim is a quick first strike, stopping a fire at 200 acres of damage, not trying to contain the blaze at 200,000 acres. It's just like a NASCAR pit stop, where every second counts."

Together, Green and ACA have invested almost $1 million on this project to date. Learn more about the "Water Bomber" by contacting Green at (330) 605-2487.

Cupid’s call for help answered this Valentine’s Day

Michigan-based Exuberance Communications provides assistance to the lovelorn, tongue-twisted individuals during the upcoming February 14 holiday

Waterford, Mich. — Would-be Casanovas breaking out in a cold sweat over the prospect of writing a love letter to their significant other or sweetheart can rejoice this upcoming Valentine’s Day, because help is on the way. Exuberance Communications, LLC., a southeastern Michigan-based public relations firm, is offering an affordable solution in time for every romantic’s favorite holiday: a good old-fashioned love letter!

“It’s the age-old story of romance. People are in love, but they just can’t put their thoughts on paper,” said Phil Stayhue, president, Exuberance Communications (www.exuberancecommunications.com). “We’ve all heard that lament, and we’re offering an answer this year that would fit perfectly wrapped around a bouquet of roses. Exuberance Communications will help ease some of the Valentine’s Day pressure by crafting a personalized love letter. Our goal is to help clients create a message that conveys their thoughts and feelings to their sweetheart.”

Following the exchange of a service agreement, a writer will interview the client to obtain background material needed for a 300-word letter. An initial draft version will then be revised as necessary, until the client approves a finished product, which is sent in a Word document. A 300-word letter will cost $50.

Clients looking for letters of a more steamy nature should look elsewhere. Letters crafted by Exuberance Communications are intended to be of the variety that could appear in a family scrapbook two decades later. Customers calling for the assistance of Exuberance Communications, though, can look forward to working with a professional writer prepared to draft a letter capturing the spirit of the relationship.

“It’s important to understand that our writers are not romance novelists,” Stayhue added. “Instead, we’re helping our clients become romance writers in their own right.”

Far East healing art gaining fans, thanks to new Oxford business

Soothe Your Soul inspires, uplifts and empowers clients seeking their personal path to meditation, spiritual well-being during these challenging economic times

Far East healing art gaining fans, thanks to new business

Oxford, Mich. — Reiki. Merely mentioning the word in some circles gets a raised eyebrow response at best, a consoling look for a New Age enthusiast at worst. Hannah Cornell-Schroeder recognizes the wary glances, and is enthusiastically changing perceptions. A Reiki Master Practitioner and Teacher, the Metamora native held a grand opening ceremony for her new business  — Soothe Your Soul — in mid-March. The new business is located at 20 Hudson Street in the heart of Oxford, the town she has called ‘home’ since 1996. Following her founding vision, the cozy environment of her business fosters spiritual healing and self-discovery in a manner unique to the community.

“Soothe Your Soul is the result of lots of my dreams coming into reality,” said owner Cornell-Schroeder. “Our center strives to build community and promote healing and wholeness through a variety of classes, seminars, workshops, services and therapies designed to promote optimal healing, enlightenment, creativity and well-being.”

Central to Soothe Your Soul is the availability of Reiki treatments. What is Reiki? Combining two separate Japanese words, the literal translation is “spiritually guided life force energy.” Dating back to the early 1900s, the practice is an energy balancing technique and spiritual development exercise. Used for treating oneself or others, Reiki focuses on energy, or “chi” balance between the practitioner and recipient, and fosters a strong sense of deep relaxation, boosted energy levels and a feeling of inner calm.

Following a simple set of spiritual principles, Reiki is practiced across the globe by a wide range of nationalities and denominations. Reiki is not a religion, and a treatment should also not be mistaken for a massage. During a Reiki session, the practitioner may gently lay their hands on or above the clothed client’s body in a series of positions on the head, torso and legs. The typical session lasts for 60-90 minutes.

“People in general are reluctant to embrace opportunities not in their personal comfort zone and Reiki presents ideas that aren’t always widely known or understood,” said Cornell-Schroeder. “A Reiki practitioner isn’t offering an alternative for medical treatments, but we can help provide a better sense of personal balance, contentment and inner calm in a world that seems to keep on throwing challenges our way. A Reiki session is something that you need to personally experience, and that’s why we’re here.”

FOR RELEASE APRIL 1, 2009

Something soothing is afoot in Oxford, and it’s called Ashiatsu

Invigorating new therapeutic massage technique available at Soothe Your Soul, blending Asian technique with a distinctly American toe-tapping flair

Oxford, Mich. — Boots may be made for walking, but bare feet are blessed with far more potential as far as Oxford resident Kay Boyle Smith is concerned. Massage therapy enthusiasts in the area may soon be in universal agreement. The certified massage therapist is guiding clients to deeper levels of relaxation through Ashiatsu, a spa treatment method like few others. Proudly bearing the title of “Barefoot Master” after completing a demanding training regimen, Smith’s distinct approach for providing a more penetrating massage is offered through Soothe Your Soul — Oxford’s new destination for spiritual rejuvenation — at 20 Hudson Street.

“An adaptation from a technique developed by Buddhist monks, Ashiatsu foot pressure massage is a departure from more traditional therapeutic massage approaches,” said Smith. “Mention ‘massage’ and you typically envision the therapist using hands, palms and elbows to apply the appropriate level of pressure during a treatment session. Ashiatsu instead utilizes the therapist’s bare feet, providing a more consistent and much deeper pressure. I’ve been a massage therapist since 1990 and have always received positive feedback, but the response from guests discovering Ashiatsu massage has been thrilling.”

Customers experiencing an Ashiatsu massage are usually intrigued after asking a few questions. Hannah Cornell-Schroeder, owner of Soothe-Your-Soul, alleviates concerns that an Ashiatsu session involves a massage therapist strolling across a client’s back.

“Like all massage treatments, customer comfort is paramount. Throughout the session, I’m holding on to bars above the massage table, helping me maintain balance and apply the appropriate level of pressure,” said Smith. “Additionally, clients remove only the level of clothing with which they’re comfortable.”

Clients suffering from chronic back pain, fibromyalgia, and restless leg syndrome frequently discover the appeal of an Ashiatsu treatment that provides consistent foot pressure strokes along the lumbar region of the back, including the leg muscles. Therapy benefits include deep relaxation, stress reduction, decreased pain and an increase in the client’s overall circulation, health and well being

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to help clients in their efforts to maintain healthy, balanced lifestyles,” added Smith. “If you’re not certain that Ashiatsu is right for you, try it once. You’ll love it!
